When to spin-rewrite — and when to leave the source alone

Spin Rewriter is a tool in our import pipeline, not a personality transplant for every paragraph.

Rewriting helps when a feed item is useful but too close to the source for comfort. It does not help when the piece is already thin. Spinning a thin article produces a thin article with different adjectives.

Our default remains draft. A successful rewrite still needs a human skim for names, numbers, and claims that should not be paraphrased into nonsense.

If Spin fails, we keep the item as draft with the original text marked for review — we do not auto-publish the untouched source as if it were original reporting.
