In plain mode the search text is matched literally (no special characters). In regex mode the replacement may use $1, $<name> and $&. Whole-word matching understands letters of every script, not just A–Z.
Example: replace “colour” with “color” (whole words) → 3 replacements.
\n and \t in the replacement insert a new line and a tab. Complex expressions are stopped after the time limit instead of freezing the page.
