In image mode every picture is fitted into the frame on the background colour; in text modes each frame is drawn on a canvas (typing adds one character per frame, the countdown draws one number per second). Frames are encoded with a per-frame palette and your loop setting.
Example: three product photos at 600 ms each in a 600 × 600 frame make a looping slideshow GIF.
GIFs are limited to 256 colours per frame; photos with smooth gradients can show banding.
