About this tool
Turn any picture into copyable ASCII text art or into retro pixel art with a limited colour palette.
ASCII: the picture is scaled to the chosen number of columns (half as many rows, because characters are taller than wide) and each cell’s brightness picks a character from a density ramp. Pixel art: the image is reduced by the block size, its colours are cut to a median-cut palette, and each pixel is enlarged back into a sharp block.
Example: a 1000 × 800 logo at 80 columns becomes 80 × 32 characters of ASCII art.
ASCII art looks best with a monospace font and enough contrast in the original.
