Scan a phone photo into a clean PDF

Scan a phone photo into a clean PDF

Straighten the page, drop the desk around it, and export a PDF you can actually send.

A photo of a page is not a scan. The camera sees the desk, the page is a trapezoid, and the file is often several megabytes. The useful result is a rectangle of the paper, light enough to email, saved as a PDF.

Start with the page, not the room

Open Document Scanner. Add a photo or use the phone camera. Drag the four corners onto the paper edges. The tool warps that region into a rectangle on your device. It does not invent text that the camera missed, and it does not claim automatic edge detection.

  • Fill the frame with the page. A tiny page in a large photo has fewer pixels to work with.
  • Avoid a hard shadow across the middle. Move the lamp or the phone.
  • If the paper is gray, switch cleanup to grayscale or black and white before you add the page.

More than one page

Add each page after the corners look right. Reorder the thumbnails so page 1 is first. Then export one PDF. If you already have separate JPG files and you do not need perspective correction, Images to PDF stacks them in the order you choose.

When the portal still rejects the file

A clean page can still be too large. Run Compress PDF after the scan, not before you have removed blank pages. If you need the words as text rather than a picture of words, that is a different step: OCR, covered in the next guide.

The photo stays in the browser. 1CLIK does not receive the scan.
